The Peruvian government has declared a nationwide emergency after an unusual increase in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases, a once-rare neurological disorder.

GBS is a Vaccine Injury

Peru is not alone. Cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome have been increasing around the world, coinciding with the introduction of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccinations.

A review in South Korea analyzed medical records of patients diagnosed with GBS following COVID-19 vaccination and found COVID-19 vaccines may be associated with GBS. The study identified GBS post-COVID-19 vaccination in both the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.

A systematic review of hospital records in Taiwan and published literature revealed an association of GBS with COVID-19 vaccination. The majority of the cases occurred within two weeks of vaccine administration and were mostly classified as the classic form of GBS or the acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy subtype.

A study in Mexico analyzed over 81 million people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. The study found that there was an association between the vaccine and GBS. However, the incidence of GBS was low. Most recipients (71 million) only received one dose of the vaccine. The study was retrospective and the authors warned it is possible that not all cases of GBS were reported. The highest incidence rates of GBS were observed among recipients of the Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer vaccines.

A more recent review of 19 studies on the association between COVID-19 vaccination and GBS also identified a risk of GBS following vaccination. The authors concluded:

Compared with classical GBS, patients with GBS related to COVID-19 vaccination showed unique clinical features, which include a more severe manifestation of the syndrome and more frequent bifacial diplegia. Hence, it is important for clinicians to have a high index of awareness to identify potential cases of bifacial weakness with paresthesias variant GBS following vaccination for SARS-CoV-2.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a known side effect of mRNA vaccinations. There is ample evidence to support this association. However, the Peruvian government continues to deny any link between GBS and mRNA vaccines. This is concerning.

If the cases of GBS in Peru are in the unvaccinated, the government should document this data so that people can be aware. If the cases are in the vaccinated, the government should also release this data so that people around the world can make informed decisions.

The government’s continued denial of the link between GBS and mRNA vaccines is irresponsible and harmful. It is important for people to have access to accurate information.

I believe incidence rate of GBS is much higher than anyone would believe. For example, Gavin Newsom, California Governor, reportedly had GBS.

What is GBS

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that affects the peripheral nervous system. The peripheral nervous system is responsible for sending signals from the brain and spinal cord to the muscles and organs throughout the body.

In GBS, the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves, causing inflammation and damage. This damage can lead to muscle weakness and paralysis.

The symptoms of GBS usually develop over a few days or weeks. The most common symptoms include:

• Weakness: This is the most common symptom of GBS. The weakness usually starts in the feet and legs and then spreads to the arms and upper body.
• Tingling: This is another common symptom of GBS. The tingling usually starts in the hands and feet and then spreads to other parts of the body.
• Paralysis: In severe cases of GBS, the weakness can progress to paralysis. This means that the person may be unable to move their legs, arms, or even their face.
• Other symptoms: Other symptoms of GBS can include:
  • Double vision
  • Speech problems
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Breathing problems
  • Pain

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a vaccination injury. The mortality rate is 3 – 7%.
COVID-19 is less than 1%.
