Just 24 hours after his departure, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has returned to Islamabad for further talks aimed at resolving the conflict between Iran and the United States, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported on Sunday.
Araghchi will convey Iran’s conditions for ending the war to the Pakistani government, which is mediating in the conflict, Tasnim reported.
These include the immediate lifting of the US sea blockade and the introduction of a new legal framework for the Strait of Hormuz, the agency reported.
Tehran is also demanding war reparations and guarantees that there will be no renewed military aggression against the Islamic Republic. Iran does not want to put the nuclear dispute on the negotiating table, the report said.
Araghchi had only left the Pakistani capital on Saturday. During his visit he met Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Pakistani security sources said the meetings also focused on an Iranian counterproposal in negotiations with the US.
Diplomatic efforts to end the Iran war are currently at a standstill. US President Donald Trump cancelled a planned trip by his negotiators to Pakistan at short notice on Saturday, citing an unacceptable Iranian proposal. It was the second such cancellation within a week.
