The police are much criticized but sometimes I feel a bit sorry for them. For years, they’ve had all the info on the rape gangs; the children’s homes; the Elm Guest House; Ted Heath’s goings-on; the King’s Cross fire; parliamentary paedophiles and many other things I don’t know about. Putting a head above the parapet could be the end of everything for them (look how John Wedger was crucified).

I’m sure that money sometimes changes hands to turn a blind eye to what they know is criminal activity as well.
