Turkish Airlines cancels flight to UK quoting ‘force majeure’ – no details given
Mon 3:51 am +00:00, 14 Jul 2025 2Interesing.
An email just came in this morning saying our flight home has been cancelled due to ‘force majeure’.
That normally means Act Of God, warfare or bankruptcy. No details are given.
If a force majeure event is claimed or proven, Turkish Airlines is not obliged to reimburse us for the flight, which is business class in this case.
Since the cancelled flight is late on in August, quoting ‘force majeure’ seems a little odd, to say the least.
How do they know an act of war or extreme weather or bankruptcy is going to occur so far ahead of time?
No details as to what the force majeure might consist of are given.
Any one thinking of flying with Turkish Airlines should ask what ‘force majeure’ the airline is claiming five weeks ahead of time, in case this sloppy legalese is applied to other flights.
Or is there actually a very serious event beyond the control of Turkish Airlines?
I will update this post if and when we get more information. If you know something please add that in comments.
If Turkish Airlines put out a bulletin let me know.
Is the ‘force majeure’ simply an excuse to mess around with the schedule and squeeze two flights into one due to poor bookings?
Why not just say so, instead of putting out ‘force majeure’ scare stories?
Very sloppy if that’s the game.

All I will say for now is, we need to keep our eyes and ears open to see if more strange events occur like this and note them to see if any patterns evolve. Interesting and strange development, as you say, more than a month in advance, they certainly know something we don’t.
Turkish Airlines has cancelled its Iranian flights. And one or two middle eastern directions are affected. .
Maybe the schedule needs some tinkering to other destinations but that is not force majeure. If this is the reason the reason should be stated in the communique.
