A question about the recent Israel v Iran 12 day “war”
Sun 10:27 am +00:00, 13 Jul 2025Given that most serious commentators now believe that the recent Israel v Iran 12 day war was effectively “won” by Iran then,
I have a serious question to ask…..
First some apparent facts on the ground
The background
The officially accepted narrative is,
Islamic Revolution in Iran happened in 1979, so 46 years ago
Israel has wanted to overthrow the Islamic regime ever since
Netanyahoo has repeatedly stated that he wants regime change in Iran, over and over again
Because Iran plans to make nuclear weapons and that can’t be allowed by Israel
[Never mind that Israel has a large nuclear arsenal of it’s own, allegedly….]Israel/US have repeatedly assassinated Iranian leaders over the years
So all Iranian leaders know that, if they aren’t careful then, they could be next
It’s been a consistent theme of Israel,
The Islamic Revolution MUST be overthrown because it threatens Israel
No current Iranian could surely doubt that
The 12 day “war”
The current consensus seems to be that,
Israel had some initial “success” in the war particularly with their assassination of many Iranian leaders
Israel did not do any serious damage to Iran’s nuclear program
Either, because the Iranian centrifuges were moved to safety before the attack
Or, because the equipment was just too deep underground
And,
US weapons, other than nuclear, are impotent in reality for Iranian regime change
Otherwise it would have already happened
Because the US does not have the manpower, or effective military resources, to to make a definitive difference
Eg
US aircraft carriers are vulnerable to hypersonic missiles [see Houthis]
US is no longer capable of a land war, a la Iraq in 2003
Conclusion
Israel killed many Iranian civilians, several thousand by all accounts
Iran eventually overwhelmed Israel’s “Iron Dome” air defence system with hypersonic rockets and drones
Haifa port was within days of total destruction
Many key Israeli locations were also destroyed
Iran had very large stocks of drones and missiles and could have continued for a lot longer
So, Israel was losing the war, and was wide open to destruction by Iranian weapons
Trump stepped in, and brokered a “ceasefire”, and the war ended
My question
Given that Israel [US] is supposed to be an existential threat to the Iranian regime
And that Israel was wide open to massive destruction by Iran then,
Why did the Iranian regime agree to a ceasefire?
Rather than press home it’s advantage and eliminate their existential threat once and for all
It’s a genuine question, has anybody got a logical answer?
