A catastrophic ground operation is the only Iran option Trump has left
Fri 4:21 pm +00:00, 22 May 2026Alexander Mercouris of The Duran joins the show to discuss Iran’s game changing move on the Strait of Hormuz that casts high suspicion on reported efforts of a “peace” deal on the part of the Trump administration. War is imminent, and Alexander breaks down the massive geopolitical dimensions of the rapidly evolving situation.
If the US goes in and is driven out, US influence in the Gulf region will collapse.
Daily drone attacks on the UAE seem like false flag attacks coming from the one country desperate for the war to restart. Any guesses who that could be? Iran would be unlikely to attack, for moral and political reasons. Why would Iran want another war with all the Gulf States?
You could argue that Iran needs to keep up the tension in the region and stop the Gulf States from becoming complacent about attacking Iran again. But then why would there be layers of secrecy? Iran would far prefer peace. The Iranians are a sophisticated people and would not be involved in clandestine attacks on the Gulf States.
Trump is very angry with the Russians, for carrying on attacking new areas in Ukraine, beyond Donbass. He got nothing from China (TAP) except a fix of the precious metal prices to the US Dollar, $4500 for an ounce of gold, and $75 for an ounce of silver, ratio of 60:1.
Presumably the Americans are fearful of a collapse of the US Dollar and fixing to precious metals buys time before a collapse finally comes. China has had to keep selling off metals at low prices to help the Americans maintain their dollar empire.
Germany is in collapse politically – Merz and the CDU and the ruling political class. The AfD is nearly over 30% in the polls – the level at which they can win elections. The CDU is 22% and falling.
Germany is at a political tipping point as the AfD surges past 29% while Friedrich Merz and the CDU face historic collapse. Alex Christoforou and Alexander Mercouris on The Duran break down why Alice Weidel has become Europe’s most effective opposition leader, why Merz’s rearmament economic plan is a disaster for the German economy, and how the political establishment is preparing to blame Russia rather than their own failures. Is Germany about to experience its most transformative political moment since the founding of the Federal Republic?
