Regarding the politics of the country: The quality of Members of Parliament has declined due to a shallow talent pool, driven by high turnover and centralized party control that favours controllable mediocrity over independent expertise. Furthermore, the influence of social media has shifted focus from substantive legislative debate to performative content, reducing scrutiny and fostering a divisive climate that prioritizes partisan victory over effective governance.
Regardless of which successor replaces Starmer, the government’s legislative agenda for the coming year was established during the State Opening of Parliament and the King’s Speech. Three points are particularly notable, most significantly;
1). The move toward further integration with the European Union. Given that the United Kingdom voted to leave the EU in the referendum held on 23 June 2016, this policy appears to be an attempt to re-enter through the back door.
2.The introduction of ID Cards.
The petition regarding the introduction of ID cards closed on 9 January 2026, having received 2,984,191 signatures (https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/730194). The government continues to disregard public opposition.
3. Legislation to curb antisemitism.
Martin Niemöller’s Confession: The famous quote “First they came for…” warns against silence when any group is persecuted, emphasizing that indifference to the oppression of others eventually leads to the oppression of everyone, including oneself.
Free Speech Protections: Legal and ethical arguments in the context assert that criticizing the government (including actions in Israel) and advocating for Palestinian rights are protected forms of free speech and do not constitute antisemitism, provided they do not deny the Jewish right to self-determination or incite hatred.
Distinction Between Criticism and Antisemitism: Experts and organizations distinguish between legitimate political criticism of state policies and antisemitism, which is defined as hatred of Jews or denial of their right to exist as a nation.
Therefore, the context supports the view that one should speak out against injustice generally and that criticizing government policies is a protected right, rather than identifying a protected entity one is forbidden from criticizing.
But then: What defines a Jew? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353885235379?_skw=The+Invension+of+%5CThe+Jewish+People&epid=4046677712&itmmeta=01KQY9KKF1N20W1AQP6APB79GA&hash=item52653428b3:g:KGkAAOSwyN5niXnK&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAABAGfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xAShSLA65qMYVN%2BzPQmMMFPBO5Eg8fa%2BXFwFDwwNSzhH%2F2E0nku0m0ZYPLRvbD%2B04Gc0SjFjVt3sJ21068dapo9OXBtu4eber0XdyvvQhrYQIi1C7wGHtXvsY1LGOGIayi9tk1qD%2BX5xto%2BRsuaT%2F1%2FLJuXdmwO09nO6cSKrTchwr5zHMvhvBvy4ZZ8IjNtGA7QYlFoh9O2cPteACLNwDYQRxoXnsDI4xAfOu%2BRjpUky0EnucyrWFEEehzRbbFfw%2FdGSiWfE703zMip9f1E%2BlluekbML%2FKzyCWXphkVtjxUuGhu0kottZUuTx84zdDY8fI%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-a3zsm_Zw
