Can anyone shed any light? Where are we going now? Starmer analysed.

Starmer is a puzzle.

Trump is not quite understandable.

Can anyone shed any light?

Dr Parvini has a good go at it.

He thinks Starmer should go, and he thinks someone will find a way to get rid of him.  Then what?

Do Prime Ministers even have much power?   Boris and Liz Truss showed that they were told what they must do.

These hidden powers seem content with Starmer.  It seems quite scary.  Where does Blair fit in.  Blair’s agenda is being put into effect by Starmer – on AI for example, and digital ID cards.  Larry Ellison funds Blair.  He’s close with Gates.  Technocratic solutions are being advanced by Starmer.   If Blair decides to keep Starmer, he’ll survive.  But if Trump finds the relationship too prickly Blair might drop him.  Paraphrased.

Alex M says Starmer’s been brought to establish systems of authoritarian control of the British people.  Independent minded people like farmers are under attack.  The backlash is growing.  Yet people are demoralised (The Brexit optimism is lost) and the Deep State wants the network of control to be built.  They couldn’t care less about the economy.

Interesting discussion.  Media is blatantly controlled.  Acting in unison.

America and Britain are following very different courses now.  Britain used to be America’s point man in Europe since 1947.  We worked in parallel with the US, working in harmony.  At the moment Britain and America are on different pages.  How can Starmer lead the collective west as America withdraws?  He can’t even run the Labour Party.

Farage is quite reluctant to take the lead, though America seems to want him to be the British Donald Trump.  Anyone independent-minded is labeled Far Right.  Starmer is falling out with everyone and has no political base.  He’s not hardcore Zionist enough to have Blair’s wing on his side.  His position is unsustainable.  The problem is who would take over from Starmer if he went?  The Labour Party as a whole is lost.  Rayner?

The Blair Labour Party has been degraded to the point of hopelessness.  Reeves.  They’re awful, all of them.

The Conservatives had strong characters.  Badenoch is making no impact at all against Starmer.  Reform is based around Farage and he shows little appetite for office – happier in opposition.  Why would anyone with brains and talent ever go into politics?  Is the future here going to be oligarchy like the US is going?  Continued decline instead?  Will we retreat into our culture?  As in Greece, Russia.  Why can’t Britain head into a backwater for a while, on the edges for a while.  Iran did this.  It could be good for Britain.

Stargate: Trump Partners with Technocrats to Promote mRNA Injections, AI, and Transhumanism
Posted on January 24, 2025 Author Derrick BrozeComment(1)
The presence of Sam Altman, Larry Ellison, Elon Musk, and other technocrats like Peter Thiel should be a signal to those who value liberty that MAGA has become the home for the faux populist branch of Big Tech.

On Tuesday President Donald Trump stood with the heads of SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle to announce investments of $500 billion for a new artificial intelligence company called the Stargate Project.

“Stargate will be building the physical and virtual infrastructure to power the next generation of advancements in AI,” Trump stated at the press conference.

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and SoftBank chief Masayoshi Son said their companies will invest $100 billion to kick the project off, with up to $500 billion expected in the near future. The investments will go towards building out artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States.

Trump said the companies are already building new data centers to provide energy to power artificial intelligence tools. The first data center being built by Softbank, OpenAI, and Oracle is in Abilene, Texas. Microsoft, NVIDIA and OpenAI have named as tech partners.

“The data centers are actually under construction. The first of them are under construction in Texas,” Ellison said at the announcement. “Each building is a half a million square feet. There are 10 buildings currently being built, but that will expand to 20 and other locations beyond the Abilene location, which is our first location.”

Two years after Larry Ellison invested in Imagene AI, the Israeli startup, in partnership with Oracle, is launching an artificial intelligence model for the rapid diagnosis of cancer based solely on biopsy images. This model is described as a “ChatGPT for oncology,” capable of identifying complex features and patterns within biopsies.

CanvOI is a sophisticated AI model comprising 1.1 billion parameters, trained on a diverse dataset of over 630,000 biopsy images from more than 100 global sites, covering over 40 major organs and tissue types. By applying a novel approach to AI in digital pathology, CanvOI achieved industry-leading performance in a variety of cancer-related tasks. Its ability to function efficiently, even with limited data, is particularly valuable in the biomedical field, where data availability is often a challenge.
During the event in Las Vegas, Ellison spoke about the Israeli startup: “To transform cancer research, Imagene did what countless other leading AI startups have done – it turned to Oracle’s Gen2 AI infrastructure, which delivers the scale and performance required to power the world’s largest AI models and help solve humanity’s most difficult challenges,” said Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CTO. “With CanvOI running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Oracle and Imagene are providing scientists with new weapons in the fight against mankind’s deadliest adversary, cancer.”
Eran Feigenbaum, SVP and Country Leader of Oracle Israel, added: “As an Israeli, I am incredibly proud to see Oracle enter into such a strategic and impactful collaboration with an Israeli startup. The decision to launch Imagene’s innovative platform at our conference is a true vote of confidence—in both Israeli innovation and Israel itself. Oracle will continue, especially now, to strengthen the AI industry in Israel and provide advanced cloud and AI capabilities to propel it forward.”

Oracle CEO: “If we continue on our current trajectory, reaching a valuation of a trillion dollars is inevitable”
Oracle is doubling down on cloud infrastructure and AI to propel its growth, with an eye on becoming a trillion-dollar company. CEO Safra Catz reveals in an interview how the company’s aggressive investments and strategic expansions are poised to accelerate its financial ascent and why she’s convinced Israel will be flooded with investments after the war.

    excerpt
Although she left Israel for the United States at age six, Catz has maintained a strong connection to her homeland. The interview was conducted during her second visit to Israel since the war began. Her first visit in January was focused on showing solidarity with Oracle’s local branch, which employs about 500 people, and with the country at large. That trip included a tour of the Gaza border area, meetings with Israel’s president, and time with her Israeli family. This time, Catz’s visit was more business-oriented, arriving directly from Bahrain. There, she emphasized that Oracle’s investment in the Gulf state was directly influenced by the Abraham Accords, which she sees as just the beginning of normalization in the Middle East.
“Bahrain is the last country from the Abraham Accords I hadn’t yet visited,” she says. “I went to thank them for signing the agreement, but also to ensure they understood that Oracle’s investments are part of the economic reward for peace with Israel. Every time I mentioned the Abraham Accords, they smiled—they’re proud to be part of this process. We’ve done the same in Morocco, where we once had about 20 employees. Since establishing relations with Israel, we’ve built development centers employing hundreds, soon to exceed a thousand.”

Building supercomputing capabilities is critical.”
Amsterdam was making the remarks following the news that President Biden’s restrictions on AI computing power may leave Israel lagging behind in global innovation, as previously reported by CTech earlier this month. While the White House since has a new resident, it drove home the priority for countries like Israel to not depend too heavily on other global powers.

UK council selling the farm (and the fire station) to fund ballooning Oracle project

West Sussex helplessly watches price tag go from £2.6M to ‘oh my God’

A UK council is set to use up to £25 million ($31 million) from the sale of capital assets such as property to fund an Oracle-based transformation project that has seen expected costs mushroom from £2.6 million to around £40 million ($50 million).

West Sussex County Council is taking advantage of the so-called “flexible use of capital receipts scheme” introduced in 2016 by the UK government to allow councils to use money from the sale of assets such as land, offices, and housing to fund projects that result in ongoing revenue savings.

An example of the asset disposals that might contribute to the project – set to see the council move off a 20-year-old SAP system – comes from the sale of a former fire station in Horley, advertised for £2.5 million ($3.1 million).

Meanwhile, the delays to the project, which began in November 2019, forced the council to renegotiate its terms with Oracle, at a cost of £2.4 million ($3 million). The council had expected the new SaaS-based HR and finance system to go live in 2021, and signed a five-year license agreement until June 2025. The plans to go live were put back to 2023, and in the spring of 2024 delayed again until December 2025.
    ……
Last year, The Register reported that the total budget is set to be more than 15 times the figure initially forecast going from £2.6 million ($3.26 million) to nearly £40 million ($50 million) after a two-year period during which the project was not fully costed. DXC was appointed as systems integrator in 2021, but was given notice in July 2023 as there was “no real prospect of a deliverable plan being agreed” with the supplier. The council reviewed the project in 2024 and inked a new £5.8 million ($7.2 million) SI contract with Infosys in November last year.

To accommodate the staggering increase in expected costs, the council has turned to using the sale of capital assets for projects expected to save money and improve efficiency.

A document, prepared for a meeting of the council’s Performance and Finance Scrutiny Committee this week, said it intended “to apply £5.5 million of capital receipts in 2024/25 to fund” the Oracle transformation project. The money was earmarked for “investment in a transformational project that supports HR, procurement, and finance processes to enable automation and improved efficiency.”

Why is Big Tech hellbent on making AI opt-out?

As Microsoft, Apple, and Google switch the tech on by default, what happened to asking for permission first?

Opinion Copilot in Microsoft 365 and Apple Intelligence on iDevices are the latest examples of the tech industry’s obsession with making services opt-out rather than opt-in.

Last week, Copilot made an unsolicited appearance in Microsoft 365. This week, Apple turned on Apple Intelligence by default in its upcoming operating system releases. And it isn’t easy to get through any of Google’s services without stumbling over Gemini.

Regulators worldwide are keen to ensure that marketing and similar services are opt-in. When dark patterns are used to steer users in one direction or another, lawmakers pay close attention.

But, for some reason, forcing AI on customers is acceptable. Rather than asking “we’re going to shovel a load of AI services into your apps that you never asked for, but our investors really need you to use, is this OK?” the assumption instead is that users will be delighted to see their formerly pristine applications cluttered with AI features.

Customers, however, seem largely dissatisfied. For every study showing how users are delighted when presented with generative AI tools, others paint a picture of users regarding the technology with suspicion and some enterprises giving the services a wide berth.

While we’d hesitate to use the word “enshittification” to describe what this relentless drive to ram AI down customers’ throats is doing to formerly reliable services (take a look at the sometimes hilariously inaccurate summaries that now appear at the top of Google search results), it is clear that things are not going entirely to plan.

Customers have not asked for any of this. There has been no clamoring for search summaries, no pent-up demand for the revival of a jumped-up Clippy. There is no desire to wreak further havoc on the environment to get an almost-correct recipe for tomato soup. And yet here we are, ready or not.
