Hosting Upgrade Appeal

The Tap has become increasingly busy over the last few weeks with many more visitors and sign ups. It's currently creaking and slowing. We need a hosting account upgrade to help cope with the increased activity and keep this free blog online. It would be sad to lose it but it costs to keep it going and free to use. If any of you can help donate even a small amount towards the hosting upgrade that would be a big help. Thank you. Click here to donate

What is the Royal National Lifeboat Institution doing in Tanzania and Bangladesh?

The Royal No So National Lifeboat Institution

Those who imagine that the RNLI is a national organisation, working only in the waters around the British Isles are greatly mistaken. They also provide creches in Bangladesh and swimming lessons in sub-Saharan Africa.

It’s another “charity” begging for donations. I visit a Lancashire seaside town regularly to visit my 34 year old mother in law. There is a brand new lifeboat station there which was started during covid and is only just finished

Doh, 94 year old mother in law

Just one problem, it’s not directly on the coastline! I bet it cost a tidy packet too. Never ceases to amaze me, every time I drive past

I think it’s time the RNLI and it’s trustees and directors were forensically audited. I would also suggest they need reporting for misleading their donors. Having every high street canvasser wearing body cams may also be a good idea. You can then have some kind of quality control to ensure the RNLI is accurately described and portrayed and where the funds go if fully explained. Donors need to know exactly what the RNLI is and stands for. Basically give transparency to donors. Maybe a name change to RILI or Royal International Lifeboat Institution is long overdue.

Surely the lifeboat folks are due the Charlemagne prize this year.
