Fag & Got Is Verboten On Twitter X

… and British meat ball of the year goes to Douglas Murray! Tucker Carlson’s use of the British word for meat ball was funny. I read 1984 in 1984. Sadly, wrong think is alive and kickin’ in 2025.

At school I had an American English teacher who taught me there was never a reason to use ‘got’; a simple example might be, instead of, ‘I got chocolate at the shop’, it should be be, ‘I bought chocolate at the shop’. I do not recall her mentioning fag. Fag was a cigarette and slang for shirt lifter. It may have been a description of a younger boy forced to play servant, ‘fag’, to an older boy in Tom Brown’s School Days. I suspect in real life the young ‘fag’ may have served the older school boy in providing illicit ‘pleasure’ too. There private school boys would grow up to be our political representatives.

I asked Brave about a Delia Smith faggot recipe.

There is a recipe for faggots in Delia Smith’s Complete Cookery Course. The recipe includes bacon, pig’s liver and belly pork combined with onions, breadcrumbs, herbs, and spices, then formed into balls and baked in stock. This version is noted for its use of common ingredients and is considered a reliable method for preparing the dish.
As a kid in England I remember a classic phrase: sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. It seems those days are forgotten, even forbidden.

Faggot. It’s a term for a meat ball. For your attention Twitter X, here’s an example recipe:
‘Faggots, a Welsh indigenous food of the early 20th century, made from chopped pigs liver and intestines, breadcrumbs, suet, herbs and seasonings, enwrapped in a covering of caul, a thin fatty membrane taken, from a pig’s stomach. It is then fried or baked and served with mashed potatoes, peas and a good rich onion gravy, made using the pan juices.’
