I doesn’t surprise me one bit. It points out too the irrelevance of political parties. The Tories failed but Starmer brings it in. I will come in. When I was young, I never had a bank account, nor did family members or most if not all of my friends. You got paid cash on a Friday and that was it. Then Thatcher made you get a bank account. You then got paid monthly into that. They sold you your council houses cheaply as they were cheap houses, and it felt like you had something. If however, you end up in an old folks home, they’ll have your savings and the house back off you double quick.
The lady who refused to talk to the reporter will be controlled whatever they got her to do, She would only have said political avoidance gobbledegook even if he’d captured her.
“Government wants to spy on your bank account”
Shouldn’t that read:
“Government can already spy on your bank account whenever it wants”
My working assumption is that everything, all data, is hoovered up by the Borg. They just haven’t told us yet. But they’ve surely dropped enough hints…
Yes Pete, they however need to get it legal to do something, whatever that is they have in mind.
They can already send in a tax goon to scrutinise your records whenever they want can’t they? “You’ve been selected for a routine/random/special tax audit” or some such baloney
Anyone cooking the books would be stupid to put illegal transactions into their bank surely. I assume that crims would never do that, stands to reason
Yes you’re likely correct Pete, you’ll have had more dealings with them than I have. I hate dealing with them and avoid it. My only thought was that they must have some reason to do this. If they can already do everything then there would be no need, or am I missing something with my lack of business savvy?
My approach was fundamentally “keep your nose clean within the system”. Organise your affairs to legitimately minimise your liabilities to them, but cough up enough to satisfy them, the least that you think is justifiable. Don’t take the piss
In my experience then tax and government goons are humans too [hard to believe I know 🙂 ] They ain’t stupid and if you take the piss they could be suspicious and dig deeper. As with everything open honesty usually pays. On your terms not theirs of course
When we moved house, my new neighbours informed others what my income was, and much else besides. They found out easily enough. I don’t think anything can be kept secret. He works in a clearing bank, and not one where I bank.
Cheers Pete and thanks Henry too, I never knew it was so easy.
