Finland and Philippines – proxies for coming US wars
Fri 1:23 pm +01:00, 9 Aug 2024Ukraine is lost. But the war must go on!
Neocons are working over-time to prepare two new theatres of the slow-grinding Third World War.
The similarities between what is going on in the Philippines and Finland is truly shocking, if just for how simple it is to prepare both countries to go to war for the neocons, against Russia and China.
The Philippines and Finland used to have a more or less independent security policies, but recently both decided to give that up for the sake of military integration with the United States.
To discuss this, I got with me a colleague from the Philippines, Anna Rosario Malindog-Uy from the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development at Peking University, and a Finnish colleague, Dr. Tuomas Malinen, an Associate Professor from the University of Helsinki.
Philippines – President Duterte tried to keep a balance between US and China, maintaining independence outside the US security infrastructure, providing stability, while the new President Bong Bong Marcos Jnr seems to be otherwise minded – is he a US stooge? He shifted foreign policy from independent to US leaning. A militarised foreign policy. New US bases and joint PHIL-US multiple exercises. Ties with US allies are increased – South Korea, Australia, Japan. This shift has antagonised China. ASEAN member states are not happy as the region is less stable than it was. They see Philippines as the next Ukraine within Asia. Austin and Blinken visited recently and offered $500 billion for military investment.

Finland – Eerily similar things are happening. Neutrality has been replaced recently. In 1948 Finland signed a Treaty to be independent and not call on NATO for defence, although possibly could call on the Soviet Union. Finland had a doctrine of being between East and West. In WW2 Finland was allied with NAZI Germany. And was not incorporated into western alliances. Finland was able to trade with Soviet Union/Russia, build up their own armed forces, at the level of not being a threat to Russia. When Soviet Union broke up, in the 1990s Finland moved closer to the West. After the Ukraine war started, Finland moved closer to the west and NATO. A referendum was promised before joining NATO.
Same treaties moving west in Philippines.
Finland is to have sixteen military bases.
US is permitted to bring military equipment into Finland including nuclear weapons – secret agreements. St Petersburg is only 200 kms from Finland – Russia’s second biggest city. Finland signed a defence agreement with Ukraine recently (SOUND CUT OFF) – last one was 1944, promising Germany for Finland not to seek peace with Soviet Union separate from NAZI Germany. New Treaty was signed ‘Ukraine agreement’ without any parliamentary discussion. No MP objected. Finland has gone from neutral semi-friend of Russia to a hostile posture against Russia. This is nothing but a preparation for war since joining NATO.
