Residents have reported hearing ‘explosions’ after a collision in Tamworth. The incident happened on the A5 this morning, Wednesday, June 8, and was so loud it could be heard across the town.Emergency services are at the scene and the air ambulance landed. Highways England say the A5 is closed in both directions between the A51 and B5440.Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted while West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a lorry and a car on the westbound carriage of the A5 near Ventura Retail Park in Tamworth at 10.59am.”One ambulance and a paramedic officer are currently in attendance at the scene and we are treating two patients, one from each vehicle.”

Another, Debbie Murphy, said she heard “about 4 huge bangs” in Kettlebrook and” saw black smoke.

On social media, someone said: “Huge lorry fire and explosions on the A5 Tamworth bypass. Road closed in both directions. Be careful if you are travelling that way.”
