The ‘smartest’ people are not the most successful

People who are able to change are more content, less ruthless and less competitive. They are open with each other and share facts and ideas readily, unlike the more jealous type that keeps information tight and projects an image of success, which is often a cover up of lack of confidence. Cooperative groups are vulnerable to attack by those jealous of their success, being open and content, but they adapt around the attack and move on.
