Kuwait wants to pull up the white flag

Kuwait is negotiating an expanded defence agreement with Pakistan in exchange for energy cooperation and investment with the South Asian country, according to a Reuters report.

A Pakistani official told Reuters that Kuwait wanted Islamabad to deploy “thousands of Pakistani troops on the ground, fighter jets, drones, an air defence system, and other defence-related facilities”.

The talks, while at an early stage, underscore how the regional security landscape is being upended by the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Oil-rich Kuwait has endured some of the most intense Iranian strikes in retaliation for the war. On Friday, Kuwait said a power and desalination plant had been seriously damaged by Iranian strikes.

Kuwait’s outreach to Pakistan is notable because the Gulf state is home to around 14,000 US troops, more than any other country in the Middle East. The US also has two large bases there – Camp Arifjan and Ali al-Salem Air Base.

TAP – It sounds like resistance to Iran, but as Pakistan is a longstanding Ally of China, the effect of the statement is a request to the US to go.

Iran’s missiles are now superbly accurate.

Core Pillars of the AllianceChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC): As a flagship component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), CPEC aims to connect China’s Xinjiang province to Pakistan’s Gwadar Port through a massive network of highways, railways, and energy pipelines. The multi-billion dollar framework is currently in its “CPEC 2.0” phase, shifting focus toward agriculture, technology, industrial cooperation, and regional connectivity.Military & Defense: China is Pakistan’s primary supplier of military hardware, including advanced fighter jets (such as the J-10C), naval vessels, and air defense systems. The two nations engage in frequent joint military exercises and share robust nuclear technology and defense-production ties.Diplomatic & Financial Support: China consistently provides essential diplomatic backing to Pakistan at global forums like the United Nations. Furthermore, Beijing provides crucial financial lifelines through bilateral loans and bond issuances (e.g., Panda bonds) to bolster Pakistan’s economic stability.
