Many readers have asked what China actually looks like for those who haven’t been there.

Lots have been said about China’s rise in manufacturing, technology, and science.

Everyone has heard that the longest high-speed rails, the busiest ports, the biggest dams, and the tallest bridges are in China.

But what does China look like physically? There are numerous YouTube and TikTok video clips uploaded by foreign travelers to the country. Many are fascinating records of their rides on Chinese subways, walks in city streets, and meals in local restaurants.

An American youth YouTuber, Speed (a.k.a. I Show Speed) shot a series of videos for his trip to China where he drove a “dancing” BYD car, rode in an unmanned flying car, boxed with a kung fu master, and met the Chinese Trump in Chongqing. His videos garnered hundreds of millions of views.

Though those clips are filled with details and granular observations, it is hard to get a wide-angled view. So I thought it might be interesting to share a few short videos that show ariel views of a few Chinese mega-cities including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Chongqing.

If you are interested in other Chinese cities, aerial videos are easily available as well.

I am partial to my own adopted hometown of Shanghai, so the city is featured in multiple clips from different vantage points.
