How Failing To Maintain Our Infrastructure Puts Lives At Risk

See how much time the fireman wastes digging out the fire hydrant before he obtains a water supply. Sooner or later people will die due to this lack of maintenance. Had there been someone trapped in the vehicle they would have been well toasted as a result, lucky the truck was not closer to the buildings.

Another factor sovereigntea, is lots of fire stations have been closed and the remaining having to cover wider area, so they do not have time to check the hydrants like they used to do!

Yes .. As a child I recall the fire brigade checking the hydrants in our street a couple of times a year.

Also the county council in my area (Worcestershire) seems to have given up on cleaning out the drains or sweeping the streets so there is more mud and filth washed into things like hydrants.

Many years a friend of mine in Switzerland was in the volunteer arm of the fire brigade. He told me their tasks mainly (if not solely) consisted of going round and checking hydrants.

He enjoyed the day out, but it was a very important job they were doing.
