Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Cambodia on the sidelines of international forums. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed cooperation in the field of security against the backdrop of the strengthening of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region. According to Mr. Lavrov, the strategic partnership between Russia and China is one of the pillars of the movement for the triumph of law, above all the principles of the UN Charter.

The United States violates this principle on a daily basis, everywhere, and this, of course, requires a reaction,” the Russian Foreign Minister said at a meeting with Wang Yi (quoted by TASS).

He said that Moscow and Beijing are participating in the recently created “group of friends in defense of the UN Charter.” “I believe that this is a promising idea that deserves expansion, and we are confident that new members will join its work,” the minister said.

Sergei Lavrov stressed that this is the third bilateral meeting between Russia and China in less than a month. On July 7, the heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries held talks in Bali, and on July 28 they met in Tashkent.

“In fact, every time we find more and more things that require our constant attention and the adoption of practical decisions by our states,” Mr. Lavrov said.

The press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the ministers highly appreciated bilateral cooperation at the UN platform and considered issues of reforming the world organization. During the talks, the need to maintain security in the light of the growing activity of the United States and its satellites in creating narrow-bloc structures in the Asia-Pacific region was emphasized.
