Announcement follows Poland’s confirmation of troop withdrawal because of ‘worsening security situation’.
Nato confirms it ‘adjusted posture’ in Iraq, relocating all personnel there to Europe
So, it’s not just Poland: Nato has just confirmed its decision to move personnel from Iraq more broadly.
In a statement, it said “Nato Mission Iraq has adjusted its posture, safely relocating all its personnel from the Middle East to Europe.”
The last Nato Mission Iraq personnel departed Iraq earlier today, it said.
“I would like to thank the Republic of Iraq and all the allies who assisted in the safe relocation of Nato personnel from Iraq,” said General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe.
“I would also like to thank the dedicated men and women of Nato Mission Iraq, who continued their mission throughout this period. They are true professionals.”
AP has a bit more useful context on Nato’s Iraq mission (16:08), which was launched in 2018 to advise Iraqi authorities on how to develop and build effective institutions and forces. It works mostly around Baghdad.
It said the push to relocate came after a series of attacks from Iran on other troops at British, French and Italian bases in northern Iraq.
Nato said its mission would continue from a military headquarters in Naples, Italy.

TAP – Stas Krapivnik says it is quite extraordinary that neither the US nor NATO troops built any bunkers in Iraq. They were sitting ducks for Iranian missiles.
The Russians should take note that a few well aimed missiles have caused US withdrawal from a war zone.
How many more vulnerable US/NATO bases can be cleansed of personnel from the Middle East? A hundred more ?
The Israelis have bunkers, usually sited underneath hospitals, for some reason. Their air defenses and early warning radars have been obliterated.
Trump and the Zionists are delusional trying to believe their own propaganda, while their assets get taken out.
Meranwhile Iran and many others are working as fast as they can to get rid of them from the Middle East, and inflict a strategic defeat.
The Saudis and the Pakistanis supposedly US allies must be holding their hand – observing the US withdrawal.
Why would anyone start a land invasion of Iran now? The Kurds don’t seem interested.
Maybe Russia will impose some order on the Caucasus and commit forces, with Georgia seeing the writing on the wall now about US/NATO/EU withdrawals.
Is the worm of EU/NATO eastern expansion since the 1950s finally turning around?
The UK is no doubt the next item on the Iranian agenda for some gentile persuasion.
