Most definitely Ian
Frank was one of my ultimate guitar heroes back in the day, he was a genius with the guitar. But he also had a salacious, very very humorous, way with his lyrics. He made me belly laugh with his crude, sexually explicit, stuff, and also his outstanding put downs of fellow artists who had sold out. He nailed Bob Dylan and a few others
It was only when I read Dave McGowan’;s “Weird Scenes inside the canyon” about Laurel Canyon in LA [where Frank was the Capo] and the birth of the hippies that I realised that there was far more to Frank than met the eye

Mathis and others completed the takedown.
But still, nothing could take away the guys genius in my eyes. He gave me so much pleasure over the decades, still does in fact. I sometime cheer myself up with a listen to the unique Frank and his great band “The Mothers of Invention”. Bit of a clue with that band name hey?
He is said to have died young too, about 60 I think. But I like to think that he just retired like so many others in the industry who “died”
Yes I agree 100% Pete. I loved Frank too, and up until recently knew nothing of how orchestrated the Hippy movement or youth scene was. I also thought of John Mayall’s Laural Canyon Blues album, which I had. Thanks for the link Pete.
The whole book is there Ian but I somehow linked to part 10
McGowan was a spooky limited hangout himself, he blocked the entrances to the lowest burrows of the rabbit hole. Turn “Centre for an Informed American” into an acronym. In your face or what? Oh what a tangled web we weave…
Mark at “Piece of Mindful” nailed McGowan a decade or so ago. Amongst many other things, McGowan thought that all the early industry “deaths” were real
Fascinating Pete, it’ll keep me going for a while. Thanks.
