Ben Norton joins Danny Haiphong to Discuss Trump – Tariffs and Threats of Economic Colonisation of Global South
Sun 3:19 pm +00:00, 26 Jan 2025This is long, but extremely worthwhile. Ben has a plethora of relevant facts at his finger tips, and presents them in such a way that he holds one’s attention throughout.
In the first half he explains in great detail, which this complicated topic requires, why he does not believe Trump understands how tariffs work, and the many kinds of unintended consequences which could easily develop if Trump indeed imposes blanket tariffs on the Brics or even aspiring Brics members. As for the US, it will be the people who suffer, and he eloquently explains how and why.
In the second half he delves into his greatest worry, which is that Trump and Rubio ( who never saw a war he didn’t like ) appear to be pivoting toward the economic and military colonisation of the global south, countries which have no means of defending themselves against the military might of the US. He thinks anyone who believes that Trump is about peace is naive; just look at his record, and the record of all American presidents. The foreign policy of the Uniparty remains the same regardless of which party is in the White House.
This is a superbly interesting and educational programme. Ben is outstanding, in my opinion. He and Danny complement each other beautifully.
