Is this a turf war?
Are Russian nationalists gaining the upper hand – friends of Preghozin? Or are Russian traitors coming out into the open?
Russian military is corrupt, it has to be said, but what’s the story?
There is a long tradition in Russia of successful generals being sidelined once their work is done, to stop tem becoming too powerful. Georgi Zhukov a classic example.

I don’t know about all these people, but Sergey Shoigu, who isn’t a military man, now has a very high-level job as advisor to the President. The post is reckoned to be higher than that of Defence Secretary.
