Comforting Our Suffering
Many patients are suffering from their diseases, with Western medicine offering little in the way of comfort. They mainly concentrate on treatments to manage diseases. Cures for chronic diseases are rarely even on the drawing board. Yes, we all want to get better, though some of us are in limbo, some even waiting to die, but just about everyone understands suffering.
Sometimes, our suffering is tremendous but temporary. People who suffer from migraines, severe menstrual problems, and even the flu know what I am talking about. No matter what disease stage we are in, whether chronic or acute, we will enjoy comfort and relief if we suffer. This applies if we are suffering from the toxic insults of harsh medical treatments or waiting for life-saving medical interventions. It also applies to mental and emotional suffering.
It just so happens that natural medicine can comfort and, in many instances, even cure a person of severe disorders. There is no better comfort than being cured, but that is not everyone’s destiny. So, in this essay, our focus is on treatments that bring comfort.
Every person, at some time or other, undergoes painful life
experiences. Pain and suffering are universal human constants.
Aggressive Hyperthermic Oncology is offered as a treatment and even cure for cancer; however, heat, in general, provides the most basic comfort. Nothing is more comforting than infrared mattresses that keep you warm all night and during the day if you are bedridden. Death is cold, and life is warm. Imagine the woman in the above picture lying on a BioMat; no matter the pain, she would be comforted. Believe me, when suffering from the terrible flu, the only place you would want to be is on an infrared mattress.
One probably imagines that when a patient is near the end of their rope, they will receive oxygen, but that is not the best medical gas to comfort and calm one’s cells and organs. Though intensive oxygen therapies are healing, not nearly as so as when hydrogen is added to the mix. Though hydrogen oxygen inhalation therapy can offer hope of recovery when used extensively, this therapy, by your bedside, can provide comfort and a feeling of stability when all the cards seem to be against you.
Western medicine does offer drugs that can reduce pain and help one sleep, but none of them have healing properties, and it is often a matter of trial and error to find out what works best for each patient. I strongly suggest most people try medical marijuana in either the THC or CBD forms. They are very versatile drugs that can be administered in many ways, offering relief from anxiety to severe pain. Medical marijuana is not only comforting but has healing powers second to none in the world of natural medicine.
I would never tell anyone to skip magnesium if one is suffering and loving touch from the people caring for you. The best would be magnesium massages, but love and affectionate touch comfort our hearts, minds, and souls. And the tears of the melting heart should not be forgotten. They offer something that nothing else will.
Nothing is like being loved when holding onto life by a string. When we are suffering, our loved ones need to be brave, and we need to acknowledge them. Some of us are destined to go, and others will pull through.
This is not an exhaustive list. I would quickly add Reiki healing, meditation, prayer, and yoga. Walking, talking to friends, and reading good books can help us deal with suffering. And, of course, having a precise diagnosis and being in touch with the cause of our suffering will help us choose the best healing practices. And, though many of us cannot be bothered by dramatic dietary changes, good food is often the best medicine.
Post Script:
As the book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman shows, the quality of our life is linked to our emotions. Many of the physical ailments of modern man are direct results of the repression of emotions. As emotions, feelings, and communication get cut off, the body goes into crises of tension and stress. All the armies of doctors, medicines, and psychologists have not been able to stem the flood of disease and the agony of souls that are cut off from the slow-moving currents of emotion. That is why I champion vulnerability, the tears of the melting heart, and breathing retraining to help deal with pain and even affect healing. There is even breathing for emotional control.
