This man is being sued for his invention.
Charles Hatfield was an ordinary sewing machine salesman, but in 1902 he created a secret mixture of 23 chemicals that literally made it rain.
In time, Hatfield began selling rain for money. His fame grew, and he contracted for large sums of money.
In 1916, Charles made a deal with the city of San Diego for a chemist to cause rain for residents, only the precipitation was so bad that it caused $3 million worth of damage to the city. Of course, the entrepreneur was not paid a cent and was also threatened with prison.
Charles died in 1958 without revealing the secret formula for the powder. During his career he caused more than 500 rains, but it is easier for official science to call Charles a charlatan, because scientists can’t explain how 100 years ago one man controlled natural phenomena.
