Great vid. Hard to imagine but the best comedians had survived the war by laughing their way through it all – along with crying. Today no one knows how to express emotion. If you laugh through WW2 you can laugh through anything. I found Spike Milligan the best cure for insomnia – the trilogy on WW2 – Hitler My part in his downfall etc. Ten pages of that anywhere in the books and I was out.
Spike’s a big miss. I loved his shows.

Spike was a genius, a one off, nobody like him has been seen since. His work was often surreal. His book “Puckoon”, about the creation of the Ulster/Eire border in Ireland, was one of my personal Spike favourites. It would probably be labelled as racist now as well
