THERESA May sparked anger by claiming many Britons “benefit a great deal” from Sharia Law.
Home Secretary Theresa May described Sharia Law as ‘greatly beneficial’ to many Britons
The Home Secretary made the controversial remarks as she announced the Government is set to investigate the “misuse” of Islamist law to subjugate women.
Instead it will focus on instances where traditional Islamic doctrine is being “exploited” to discriminate against Muslim women.
Judgements handed down by the informal courts have no legal basis, but there are fears their presence means many Muslim women are not getting access to the justice they deserve.
But in a controversial intervention Mrs May yesterday claimed many British Muslims “benefit a great deal” from their existence.

Belinda Wood tweeted: “Theresa May hails Sharia Benefits!! What is happening, a home sec seems to want a secondary law system for those seeking to destroy democracy.
Another user called Lithlad said: “While Theresa May explores the benefits of sharia law, Saudi Arabia bans cat photos for being ‘too Western’. I hate this septic isle.”
And a third, going under the name P.Pink, simply responded: “God help us, from atheist.”
Nile Gardiner, a foreign policy analyst and former aide to Margaret Thatcher, was also unimpressed by the comments, describing them as “unbelievable”.

She said: “Many British people of different faiths follow religious codes and practices, and benefit a great deal from the guidance they offer.
“A number of women have reportedly been victims of what appear to be discriminatory decisions taken by Sharia councils, and that is a significant concern.
“There is only one rule of law in our country, which provides rights and security for every citizen.
“Professor Siddiqui, supported by a panel with a strong balance of academic, religious and legal expertise, will help us better understand whether and the extent to which Sharia law is being misused or exploited and make recommendations to the Government on how to address this.”

It will also attempt to catalogue the number of Islamic courts and councils operating across Britain for the very first time.
But Mrs May was quick to emphasises that the inquiry will only look at how Sharia ideas were being “misused or exploited” rather than a broader examination of whether the teaching itself discriminates against women.
In a ministerial statement announcing the review Home Office minister Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon insisted: “It will not be a review of the totality of Sharia law, which is a source of guidance for many Muslims in the UK.”
Professor Siddiqui added: “At a time when there is so much focus on Muslims in the UK, this will be a wide ranging, timely and thorough review as to what actually happens in Sharia councils.”
She said: “I think the Government may well say ‘let’s wait until the results of the investigation’ but we need action now.
“My reservation is that it won’t get to the root of the problem. A lot of Muslim women I know say that the men in their communities just laugh at this proposed investigation, that they will go underground so the investigation will have to be very robust.”
She also blasted Mrs May’s insistence discrimination against women is only a result of a “misuse” of Sharia teaching, rather than the teaching itself.
The peer said: “I believe in freedom of religion and I believe that there are aspects of Sharia law that are totally unproblematic.
“If Muslims want to fast, well Christians do that at Lent, if they want to pray five times a day, that’s more than I do.
“But the aspects which are causing such concerns – such as that a man can divorce his wife by saying ‘I divorce you’ three times, that is inherent, the right to ‘chastise’ women is inherent, polygamy is inherent.
“I don’t think those things are a distortion or Sharia law.
“These are aspects of Sharia law which are unacceptable.”
Sharia Law UK
Sharia law in UK is now in Spread of Islam Phase 4. Muslim imams in the UK now outnumber the UK’s Christian pastors, and converting empty church buildings into mosques has become a cottage industry.
In 2008, UK’s government formally recognized the first Sharia Law court and the Archbishop of Canterbury – the head of Church of England – stated that adopting elements of the Sharia law into the UK’s court system was “unavoidable.”
Since then, over 100 Sharia law courts have been established across the UK. Although they technically lie within the UK’s Tribunal Court system, these Sharia courts have been issuing rulings that contradict Britain’s common law, as well as the European Union laws.
In 2011, Britain’s Muslims began demanding that Sharia replace British common law and become the only law in towns with large Muslim populations, including Birmingham, Bradford, Derby, Dewsbury, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester, Sheffield, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets, an East London Muslim enclave whose streets are already plastered with posters declaring, “You are entering a Sharia controlled zone: Islamic rules enforced” (below) and where Muslim imams now issue death threats to women who refuse to wear the Muslim veil.
One-third of Britain’s high security prison inmates are Muslims.
To woo more upscale Muslims, most of London’s financial institutions have become Sharia-compliant, which requires donating a portion of their profits to Muslim organizations designated by their Sharia-compliance advisors. When he was Prime Minister, Gordon Brown loftily declared that he wanted London to become the Islamic finance capital of the world.
His successor, David Cameron more soberly stated in 2011 that European “multiculturalism has been a failure” that has promoted Islamic extremism. He admitted that the West has been “cautious, frankly even fearful” of standing up to it, and concluded:
“We have even tolerated these segregated communities behaving in ways that run completely counter to our values. This hands-off tolerance has only served to reinforce the sense that not enough is shared… What we see – and what we see in so many European countries – is a process of radicalization.”
Two years later in 2013, however, David Cameron bowed to pressure from the banking sector and announced that Britain will become the first non-Muslim nation to issue Shariah-compliant, Islamic bonds, proudly declaring at the World Economic Islamic Forum:
“I don’t just want London to be a great capital of Islamic finance in the Western world, I want London to stand alongside Dubai as one of the great capitals of Islamic finance anywhere in the world.”
And bowing to pressure from groups linked with the Muslim Brotherhood, the British government in 2014 started requiring all British school children to complete a unit on the history of Islam, which still bills itself as a “Religion of Peace“.

The Sharia law itself cannot be altered, but the interpretation of the Sharia law, called “figh,” by imams is given some leeway.
As a legal system, the Sharia law covers a very wide range of topics. While other legal codes deal primarily with public behavior, Sharia law covers public behavior, private behavior and private beliefs. Of all legal systems in the world today, Islam’s Sharia law is the most intrusive and strict, especially against women.
According to the Sharia law:
• Theft is punishable by amputation of the right hand (above).
• Criticizing or denying any part of the Quran is punishable by death.
• Criticizing or denying Muhammad is a prophet is punishable by death.
• Criticizing or denying Allah, the moon god of Islam is punishable by death.
• A Muslim who becomes a non-Muslim is punishable by death.
• A non-Muslim who leads a Muslim away from Islam is punishable by death.
• A non-Muslim man who marries a Muslim woman is punishable by death.
• A man can marry an infant girl and consummate the marriage when she is 9 years old.
• Girls’ clitoris should be cut (per Muhammad‘s words in Book 41, Kitab Al-Adab, Hadith 5251).
• A woman can have 1 husband, but a man can have up to 4 wives; Muhammad can have more.
• A man can unilaterally divorce his wife but a woman needs her husband’s consent to divorce.
• A man can beat his wife for insubordination.
• Testimonies of four male witnesses are required to prove rape against a woman.
• A woman who has been raped cannot testify in court against her rapist(s).
• A woman’s testimony in court, allowed only in property cases, carries half the weight of a man’s.
• A female heir inherits half of what a male heir inherits.
• A woman cannot drive a car, as it leads to fitnah (upheaval).
• A woman cannot speak alone to a man who is not her husband or relative.
• Meat to be eaten must come from animals that have been sacrificed to Allah – i.e., be Halal.
• Muslims should engage in Taqiyya and lie to non-Muslims to advance Islam.
• The list goes on.
Which countries use the Sharia law?
Muslims’ aspired Sharia state is Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Muhammad that has no legal code other than the Sharia and enforces it without mercy (see Sharia law in Saudi Arabia). But as detailed herewith, the Sharia law is also used in full or in part, nationally or regionally in:
• Afghanistan (89%)**
• Bangladesh (82%)**
• Djibouti (82%)**
• Egypt (74%)**
• Indonesia (72%)**
• Iraq (91%)**
• Jordan (71%)**
• Malaysia (86%)**
• Morocco (83%)**
• The Netherlands*
• Pakistan (84%)**
• Palestinian territories (Gaza strip & the West Bank – 89%)**
• Saudi Arabia
• Sri Lanka
• Thailand (77%)**
• United Arab Emirates (UAE)
* In the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, and other European countries that resist the penetration of Sharia law, it has proven adept at infiltrating elements of the society that are left vulnerable (see Sharia law in America and the Islamization of America).
** Percent of Muslims who favor making Sharia the official law in their country (source: Pew Forum Research, 2013). In many countries where an official secular legal system exists alongside Sharia, the vast majority of their Muslim citizens favor making Sharia the official law. For example, while the Egyptian military may have blocked the Muslim Brotherhood‘s efforts in this direction, 74% of Egypt’s Muslims still favor it. Even in Jordan, Indonesia and Malaysia – Muslim countries with progressive images – the relatively secular ruling elite sit atop Muslim masses, 71%, 72% and 86% respectively of whom want their countries to be ruled by Sharia. And in Iraq, where the United States shed blood and money for over a decade to try to plant democracy, 91% of its Muslims want to live under Sharia.
The number of countries that adopt (elements of) the Sharia law continues to grow around the world, as does the depth of its penetration in the countries that already use it. This penetration is not by happenstance; it is managed to occur in five phases: see Spread of Islam and how to Stop Islam.
