Co-op Bank closes Palestine Solidarity Campaign accounts

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) has filed a lawsuit against the Co-operative Bank after the financial institution closed its accounts without warning last month.

The bank cited its “risk appetite” as the reason for the closure, according to the PSC, and has yet to comment further.

Lawyers for the PSC claimed the Co-operative Bank breached equality legislation because it discriminated against a group working in support of the Palestinian people.

The PSC said about 20 organizations working for Palestine, including numerous regional branches, have had their accounts closed or denied.

A statement issued by law firm ITN, which represents the PSC, said the bank must be held to account for its actions.

It appears that the decision was taken because of [the] PSC’s support for Palestine. A decision based on active support of Palestinian causes – or on the nationality or religion of the Palestinian people – would be discriminatory. It is in the wider public interest to ensure that banks are held to account for their decision making processes; a bank cannot be above the law by virtue of its status.”

PSC Director Sarah Colborne said the bank, which markets itself as an ethical financial institution, has turned its back on its principles.

The Co-operative Bank is very good at professing its ethical principles … It is very hard to see any evidence of these principles today. Instead it has closed the accounts of those working for human rights and equality for Palestine, offering no honest or transparent explanation – only the banking jargon of ‘risk appetite.’

It is quite clear that the Co-operative Bank no longer cares about human rights – the Palestinians suffer incursions on their human rights day in, day out at the hands of an occupying force that continues to violate international law.

In the UK we have a great tradition of solidarity organizations coming together to stand against human rights violations throughout the world – this is something that the Co-operative Bank should support and not punish,” she added.

No more shopping at the co-op for me then.

Here here. They took everything over. Monopoly…

Everything. We can vote with our feet, boycott them – I messaged the bank to tell them so. There are more of us than them, we have the power really, it’s just convincing people that’s the hard part.

Stationery firm Typo withdraws globes that included Palestine over Israel

    2 Febuary 2016.

The design prompted calls for a boycott from supporters of Israel, while its withdrawal led to a similar reaction from pro-Palestinians

A stationery chain has come under fire after it produced globes that named Palestine more prominently than Israel.

The design, in which Israel was among 13 countries to be represented by a number corresponding to a key at the base of the globe, prompted threats of a boycott and accusations of anti-Semitism against the firm, Typo, by supporters of the Jewish state.

Pro-Palestinians are now threatening a similar boycott now the globes have been pulled from the shelves.

Typo, which is Australian, received complaints on its Facebook page on 21 January, with one poster saying it had “wiped Israel from the face of the earth”.

The Guardian reported that Typo initially responded to the complaints by saying that the design, a Mercator projection from around 1860, was “an official map from an international body that has been approved for export” and Israel’s label had been omitted “purely because there wasn’t enough space to include the name”.

But two hours later it withdrew the globes from sale, prompting more social media unrest, this time from supporters of the Palestinians.

One pro-Palestinian poster wrote: “BOYCOTTING you typo, while you’re at it change the names of other countries that have been stolen from native people.”

The firm’s Facebook post said: “We never intended to offend anyone with this product and as a result we have decided to remove them from sale and halt all future production until our supplier can provide artwork that eliminates the need for a key entirely.

“We would also like to ask that any conversations on this page surrounding the globes or political views are voiced in a respectful manner.”

On Monday, the firm released a statement saying that it was “not removing any country from the globe” and that it was in the process of sourcing new artwork, the Guardian reported.

I’m getting on now salty, but years ago, I worked in a job, where we took turns cooking each others dinner. Whoever was on cook duty also tidied up after dinner and any scraps that were left were put to one side and later put out for the feral cats that lived in the depot area. Most cats only wanted to eat, there were about 8 of them in all counting kittens, but one old tom cat who was just skin and bone seemed just intent on attacking the other cats and and thus was disliked by all the other cats and the cooks alike. Israel reminds me of that cat.

        Israel Is A Racist State

The Zionist master plan to disintegrate the Islamic nations was spelled out by ODED YINON in 1982. “The dissolution of Syria and Iraq into ethnically or religiously unique areas is Israel’s primary target in the long run, while the dissolution of the military power of those states serves as the primary short term target. Iraq, rich in oil, is guaranteed as a candidate for Israel’s targets.” The Zionist controlled U.S. carried out this plan FOR ISRAEL.

Israel is not a threat only to its immediate neighbors. In his book OPEN SECRETS:Israeli Nuclear and Foreign Policies, Dr. Israel Shahak reveals:” Israeli strategies are aimed at establishing a hegemony over the entire Middle East, conceived as extending from India to Mauritania, without hesitating to use for the purpose all means available INCLUDING NUCLEAR ONES.” (emphasis mine).

Israeli Professor Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi extends Zionist Israel’s ambitions even wider in his book THE ISRAELI CONNECTION:”Israel’s activities in the Third World are significant reflections of the basic nature of Zionism and the state of Israel, and of the resulting Israeli society and world view. From Manila in the Philippines to Tegucigalpa in Honduras to Windhoeck in Namibia, Israel’s emissaries have been involved in a continuous war, which is truly a world war. And what enemy is Israel fighting? It is the population of the Third World.”

In May, 1967, the U.S. Supreme Court, in the BEYES AFROYIM decision, overturned 200 years of single nationality law and permitted dual U.S./ Israeli citizenship; now such dual citizens hold high positions in the U.S. government. The result of that fateful decision was spelled out in this telling quote from the Israeli newspaper Maariv:”The enormous Jewish influence in Washington is not limited to the government. In the Washingtonian media a very significant part of the most important personages and of the presenters of the most popular programs on TV are warm (Zionist) Jews. A significant part of senior media correspondents, newspaper editors and analysts are Jewish…In the fields of security, and science, in the film industry, in art and in literature, the Jewish influence can only be described as immense, with a corresponding enhancement of the Jewish power.”

The entire world is threatened by Zionist Israel.

Why is Europe following Obama and washing its hands of Palestine?

    20th February 2016.

My headline is a response to recent comments made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a joint press conference in Berlin with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the decision of the Cameron government in the UK to make boycotting goods from “Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank” by publicly-funded bodies, including local councils and universities, a criminal offence.

Much to the delight of Netanyahu, who has rejected a French initiative to convene a regional conference to try to get a peace process going, Merkel
