Up until 1993, when it was banned by International Law, the UK dumped thousands of barrels of High Level Nuclear waste in the sea around the UK Coastline. There are no precise records of the dumping locations as ship’s Captains were often keen to get it over the side as quickly as possible. The greatest concentration of High Level Toxic Nuclear Waste is thought to be in the Hurd Deep, a deep underwater valley in the English Channel, northwest of the Channel Islands. From marine navigational charts, the maximum depth is 172 metres, and lies to the north of the isle of Alderney.
Many of the barrels dumped in Hurd Deep have corroded and waste which will remain toxic to all life for hundreds of thousands of years, is leeching into the Western English Channel. Concerns have been raised about the high levels of cancer, particularly amongst children, in the Channel Islands. However, a report published by Public Health England in 2013, basically says, ‘Nothing to see here … keep moving along’. Just as Public Health England reported when tasked with investigating clams of high cancer levels in the area around Sellafield, Cumbria.
The issue of Nuclear Waste disposal has plagued successive Governments since dumping at sea was outlawed in 1993. However, Nuclear industry lawyers concluded that if waste is piped out to sea, this would not constitute ‘dumping’! Consequently, some waste is disposed of in this way but the UK has accumulated some 650,000 tonnes of Toxic Nuclear Waste, which it is desperate to ‘dispose’ of.
In Finland and France, there are projects underway to construct Deep Geological Disposal facilities in remote areas of the respective Countries.
These thinly populated areas are receiving significant financial incentives (bribes!) to facilitate minimal opposition. In the UK, the Government had been negotiating with to construct a twelve square Kilometre facility, some three thousand feet beneath the district of Allerdale in Cumbria. Unfortunately for the Government, (but fortunately for future generations of Allerdale residents), in early 2013 Cumbria County Council rejected this proposition and told both the Government and the Nuclear Industry to ‘Take a hike’!
Back to the Drawing Board
Coincidentally, just a few weeks before the Cumbria County Council decision, the British Government lifted the moratorium (temporary ban) on the exploitation of Unconventional Gas (Fracking). In July 2014, the Government issued a White Paper outlining the plans for a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF), just like the one proposed for Cumbria, to be located somewhere else in England (the Scottish Government has decided to retain their Nuclear waste in existing ‘temporary’ storage facilities). Seismic surveys are being conducted around the Country to identify suitable geology before Communities are ‘invited’ to put themselves forward to host the Nuclear Waste GDF beneath their Community. Now, call it a hunch, but I can’t see any Community rushing to volunteer themselves to become yet another Nuclear Sacrifice Zone. Especially as it is considered by some geologists that the compacted clay deposits in the South East of England may well be the preferred option!
At the time of writing, the Radioactive Waste Management Team are touring the UK holding Consultative Meetings, as part of the process to identify a gullible … err, sorry, willing Community to take the £40million bribe on offer to bury some of the most Toxic material ever created, beneath their homes.
Ivan Stone, the person heading up this mission, was formerly the Chief Executive of Copper Consultants, the PR Company tasked with schmoozing ‘stakeholders’ in Cumbria. Some anti-nuclear waste campaigners suspect that Ivan Stone DNA is all over the snap parliamentary vote taken in late March 2015, which resulted in Toxic Nuclear Waste Disposal being declared a ‘Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project’; thereby removing all local authority participation from any future process. Indeed, the deal may have been that Stone’s counsel was heeded, in return for him agreeing to take up the role of ‘Director Communications & Stakeholder Engagement’ with Radioactive Waste Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
At the public ‘Consultation’ events, Ivan Stone is supported by Natalyn Ala, a Hydrologist who has extensive consultancy experience with the Oil & Gas industry and was a speaker at the SHALE UK Conference in 2013, when she was emloyed as the Technical Director (Water & Environment) by Civil Engineering Consultants, Atkins.
Add to this, that Sheffield University is currently pioneering the development of methodology to dispose of Toxic Nuclear Waste in Deep Boreholes and I think you can see where this going!
Despite the fact that with the price of oil hovering around $45 per barrel, gas prices pushing record lows and the unconventional gas industry is being either mothballed or wound-down in the USA, Canada & Australia; the UK Government still seems determined to push ahead with their agenda to drill thousands of deep wells and frack the bejesus out of a significant tranche on the Country! Could it be that the UK Unconventional Gas Industry is little more than a ‘Trojan Horse’ to facilitate the widespread disposal of Toxic Nuclear Waste in 10,000ft of fracked shale?
What better way of dealing with the inconvenient cancer clusters, that Public Health England is currently tasked with concealing, than nuking the entire Country!
By definition, if we stop the Unconvention Gas Industry (fracking) from establishing a foothold, we will also be ensuring that there are no deep boreholes into which Toxic Nuclear Waste can be deposited.
For anyone not yet participating in either the UK anti-fracking or anti Nuclear Waste campaigns … it might be time to consider the legacy that we are in grave danger to future generations … and more importantly, time to decide what we are going to do about it!
In Episode 72 of FRACKING NIGHTMARE, I will be expanding upon this hypothesis and urge all Communities to take a keen interests in the activities of a Corporatist Government that continues to demonstrate a total lack of affinity or concern about the health and well-being of those resident in this densely populated Country.
Fiona Shakeela Burns was first diagnosed with LEUKEMIA at age 11. Given just a few months to live, Fiona’s parents used Gerson Therapy to bring her back to full health within 12mths . Thirty years later Fiona developed cervix cancer, penetrating her ovaries and her brain.
Now, EIGHT YEARS later, Fiona explains how she brought herself back to FULL HEALTH … without either Chemo or Radiotherapy!
HUMANITY vs INSANITY – Episode 55
Trust Me … I’m a Scientist
This Episode: – Rathlin Energy go after their ‘Pound of Flesh’ – UK Govt appoints Communications Expert to recruit for anti-fracking Community – Are Yorkshire Water really concerned about their primary asset? – Unconventional Gas economics don’t stack up! – First the FRACK … then the Toxic Nuclear Waste!
I received a number of Emails over the past two weeks from people who were apparently unable to access the 30% discount offer in October. My distributors were sorry to learn this and have once again generously agreed to waive their 30% commission until Sunday 15th November 2015 … and, once again, I would like to pass this reduction on to you.
When ordering, simply type NOV30 in the Coupon Box on the Checkout page.
