After her epilepsy was treated with CBD oil, Lily became “alive” again
Meet Lily, who was diagnosed with a severe case of epilepsy at six months old. She was having 200-300 seizures a day, and her parents had no idea how best to help. They had tried lots of different medications, but none of them worked: “It was like a beast we couldn’t control,” her mom remembers. “It’s a very heavy weight to bear, you feel constant pain for them.” After a Google search, the family discovered that marijuana is a viable treatment. “It never crossed my mind until we felt like we didn’t have other options,” Lily’s mom says. Living in Colorado, getting hold of CBD oil was easy.
The effects were amazing: immediately, Lily was more awake, she was sleeping better, she was interacting with people more, and her seizures dropped dramatically. “She was just alive,” Lily’s mom concludes. Lily has started speaking a little for the first time, and has even learned sign language. Cannabis oil has given them hope and greatly improved the quality of Lily’s life: “It’s almost like meeting her for the first time,” her mom says of the change. “We feel blessed to have brought this plant into our lives.”
Jason Cranford, founder of the Flowering Hope Foundation, has been making CBD oil and treating seizure patients for the past five years. “God put it on the planet for people to take advantage of and nobody has the right to own anything that is naturally occurring through the use of a patent,” he says. Lily’s mom agrees wholeheartedly, saying “I wish every epileptic child whose family choose to try it would have that option.”
Lily’s story is the third part of The National Geographic’s ‘Cannabis for kids’ series. If you enjoyed this, you might like to hear how CBD oil helped Sophie, whose tumor shrank after medical marijuana treatment, or Millie, who went from 700 seizures a day to a whole new lease of life.
