Strangely the powers that be chose Shropshire North for the first gas drilling (fracking) test site in the West Midlands region, exactly two miles from the home of Owen Paterson, Secretary of State for the Environment (DEFRA), and in his constituency. (Brookland Farm North East EDL)
Why did they do that?
Don’t tell me Dart Energy didn’t know!!!!!
Dart Energy is owned by Island Gas, owned by Nexen, owned by CNOOC, owned by the Chinese Government. Maybe the politburo in Beijing can’t understand Welsh and that Owen Paterson’s residence is in fact in England, despite its being exactly on the English/Welsh border, with Welsh-sounding road names. Whatever the nature of this decision, the Chinese Politburo had decided to frack the British Environmental minister’s own residence! (fracking Brooklands Farm would put them in reach of his house).
Until this week, when the phrase ‘cold feet’ seems to be happening somewhere between the head office of Dart Energy located in Singapore, the central government in China or No 10 Downing Street, the charge to frack the Minister was full-on with planning permission applied for, and an environmental impact assessment waived by Shropshire Council.
As the inevitable clash between Paterson and his constituents has been brewing, Paterson’s behaviour has been getting decidedly odd. While he’s been bulling up fracking and gas drilling in the main media, on the one hand, on the other he’s also been too scared to attend even one meeting taking place in local village halls with hundreds of his constituents in attendance, despite his being invited to attend every single one. As the local newspaper journalist told me, he’s hiding away in his office. Not even an apology.
Unlike Paterson himself, the constituents are well aware that his support of fracking and gas drilling is based on a dodgy dossier prepared for him by two paid-for scientists McKay and Stone, a document which is tantamount to fraud, containing gross distortion of evidence and deliberate omission, and which some analysts believe should be the basis of a criminal prosecution of David Cameron and other ministers.
One activist is already planning to carry out a citizen’s arrest of the Prime Minister for acting with gross negligence and fraudulently in this matter. McKay and Stone’s report cut off admission of all evidence after September 2012. That means all the information that’s finally surfaced from around the globe that fracking is killing people, destroying both the economy and the environment are being suppressed and hidden.
This is David Cameron’s Iraq and weapons of mass destruction. His whole position is based on a single paid-for dodgy dossier, except this time there’s no sexing up of the data. This time, the threat has been carefully sexed down by the scientists who knew what answer David Cameron wanted before they started ‘researching’ and writing. With Iraq it took the country about four years to realise they’d been lied to all along. This time most local people, informed by meetings in local halls and the internet, know all about the lies – in this case, it seems, before the dear old minister himself.
The poor old chap has painted himself into a corner and now faces the destruction of his constituency.
It’s possible he’s already made the decision to bale out, and go for a nice little earner with BP or Monsanto. He won’t be standing again anyway if that’s the case. But if he hopes to stand for election in less than a year from now, I can safely say, he’s totally buggered his chances in Shropshire North where constituents are all agreed that he’s badly let everyone down.
Something has to happen to resolve all this. The activist campers who sit on well-heads and deny the drilling companies access are all just waiting for the nod to descend onto Brooklands Farm. In a single day they can rustle up hundreds of activists from all over Britain. Imagine a camp with a thousand people just two miles (less as the crow flies) away from the Environment minister’s own private residence. They are not likely to remain in place with such a juicy target just inches away. They could walk there in half an hour, dumping unpleasant things on the minister’s lawn, to greet him every morning as he opens his curtains.
The only man with the courage to face the constituents in North Shropshire. Shropshire Council Leader Keith Barrow.
Maybe, just maybe, this social and political catastrophe for the government will be prevented from happening. The leader of Shropshire Council, Keith Barrow, has been watching the whole mess unfold from his Shrewsbury HQ with increasing alarm. He’s decided to attend the meetings in the village halls, the first one in St Martins, between Overton and Oswestry, on this Monday night at 7.30 pm. It would seem most unlikely he will stand up and try and justify to angry locals that their jobs, farms, businesses, and houses already unsaleable at any price, are to be further attacked with the effects of underground drilling and the inevitable consequent contamination. He must have prepared a way to resolve this issue or at least somehow kick it into the long grass.
If he hasn’t done so, you can expect a serious lynching will be taking place next week at the St Martins Miners Institute.
I have to say at least Barrow has got guts to turn up. In fact he should be the bloody MP, replacing the total waste of space that Paterson has become since he attended the Bilderberg meeting last year.
Paterson should stand down immediately before something really bad happens and this issue puts him and his family home under threat of direct action. Barrow should be put up in his place as someone willing to represent the constituency. If fracking is to destroy us, it is quite obvious that an MP hiding in his house just a mile away will not be a tolerable situation to constituents and activists. They will march there to challenge him and force him out to speak to them, if he won’t willingly appear in public.
Paterson has little idea how far he’s lost his cosy little constituency through all of this. He will never be able to recover his face from hereon. It’s better that he just clears off, and left Barrow to it. I’m sure someone very rich and powerful will gladly find him a little job in repayment for his treachery to his constituents, and the British people, who are facing increasing government-sponsored environmental attacks on this and many other fronts. Agenda 21 never had a more willing deliverer. Paterson must change his heart and soul, reverse course, or go, and go quick.
