Sorry Tap, I got this email about onions in my inbox today from a reliable source. Dr Hula Clark cites onions as a facilitator of a parasite that is found with cancer, so it had an echo of belief.
Luckily, you have some sharp eyed readers that spotted it was a hoax. Sorry once again, to have brought your blog into disrepute, I’ll try and be a bit more astute in future :-[

TAP – remain healthy with onions. Eat them!!!! There are plants that absorb stuff. Anyone know of any?

Shazza has left a new comment on your post “Remain healthy with raw onion“:
Foods renowned for their general anti-microbial and anti-parasitic properties include onions, garlic, raw cabbage and kelp. To ward off intestinal parasites, consume two cloves of raw garlic daily. Dr. Mark Hyman, author of the book “Ultraprevention,” also recommends various herbs and extracts, including oil of oregano, citrus seed extract, berberine and caprylic acid. A natural source of caprylic acid is coconut oil, composed of medium-chain fatty acids that have shown anti-bacterial and anti-parasitic properties. Oil of oregano, according to the authors of the book “Healing Foods,” contains two powerful anti-microbial agents known as thymol and caryacrol. These substances have shown to be more effective in treating certain infections than the commonly prescribed drug tinidazole.
I have spent several longish periods in India.
It is common, in restaurants, as well as homes, for a side salad to be consumed with the main meal.
Generally, this consists of
* Raw onion
* Slice of fresh lemon
* some herbs (coriander/ parsley)
My understanding of why this is beneficial:
Raw onion is believed in India to help prevent the common cold/ flu, and to help cleanse the stomach. Additionally, it makes the intestines inhospitable to parasites. (parasistes thrive in people with high sugar consumption)
Yoghurt – cooling (especially with spices in meal), additionally – it promotes good intestinal health by encouraging ‘good ‘ bacteria to flourish, again reducing incidence of stomach infections and parasites.
Lemon – assists the body (in form of vitamin c), to assimilate iron from plant based foods.
Coriander is anti -bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral, and is used in many Asian countries. It is also ‘cooling’ for the body
I note with interest, the above research regards *raw* coconut and its antibacterial and anti parasitic properties!
On a personal note, when I regularly took raw coconut extract, the coating on the centre of my tongue disappeared (from yellow to slight white which is normal). In TCM diagnostics, yellow coating indicates toxins!!! In particular, the area affected corresponds with STOMACH/ intestines…

ONIONS! I had never heard this!!!
PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT
In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu…
Many of the farmers and their families had contracted it and many died.
The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn’t believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.
Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser. She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.
Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:
Thanks for the reminder. I don’t know about the farmer’s story…but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill… I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs…sure enough it happened just like that…the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.
Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.
