As he’s our MP, I feel entitled to comment. If there any hope for the Conservative Party, it’s Owen Paterson. If there’s any hope for rural affairs, it’s Owen Paterson. He’s a eurosceptic, climate sceptic and ex-businessman who has an understanding of the real world. I have just one reservation. When I last spoke to him, he was a bullish proponent of Genetically Modified Organisms, calling them a no-brainer, and accusing opponents of being Luddites. If he really doesn’t know the true effect of GMOs on the environment, then he will need to do some urgent research. David Cameron has managed to put a minister sympathetic to Monsanto’s terminator seeds programme in charge of the environment, while the world probably assumes Owen would be a opponent.
