More Evidence That America Feels Threatened By The Lisbon Treaty

If there is one country in the world which the Irish might listen to, that country would be the United States Of America, where over 40 million of its citizens claim Irish descent and express fond regard for, and loyalty to their country of origin. To rumours that American intelligence might be partly funding and morally supporting the NO vote, trying to stop the Lisbon Treaty, can be added the not-deniable statements of John Bolton former US ambassador to the UN, serving under the Reagan and earlier George Bush administrations, and now said to be a likely candidate for US Foreign Secretary under John McCain, if he sees off Obama.

He has stated that Lisbon is a threat to democracy and a threat to NATO. These are strong words and they could have a big impact on any Irish people wavering overthe YES/NO decision. If America calls in on its Irish loyalty, it will surely collect.

It’s a bit bloody late don’t you think! Why wasn’t the Bush administration on top of this then?

Bush made the mistake pre-Iraq on not listening to his intelligence, but to his political advisers.

Maybe he’s getting it right late in the day.

After seeing Kosovo turn into a fiasco possibly soon to match Iraq in a matter of a couple of months, maybe he’s finally listening to the likes of John Bolton – late in the day, but JIT – Just In Time!!!

Americans have a habit of getting it wrong first, and then at last when everyone thinks they are done, they work it out and move ahead.

They have bone-headed persistence…and some excellent minds who eventually get listened to.
