UK Govt Admits Test and Trace Programme Unlawful
Tue 9:35 am +01:00, 21 Jul 2020GOVERNMENT ADMITS TEST AND TRACE UNLAWFUL
20 JULY, 2020
ER Editor: The UK Government has rightly run afoul of digital privacy organization Open Rights Group (ORG) over its deployment of its test and trace program starting on May 28, close to 2 months ago.
We also recommend this article by RT from yesterday, titled ‘Reckless’: Privacy rights group lashes out at UK govt after it admits Covid-19 Test and Trace program didn’t follow legal rules.
The problem lies in the legal requirement to conduct a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) first, which the government didn’t do, and which it has admitted it didn’t do. In the meantime, employees of the tracing program have been found putting confidential patient data on social media platforms. See this from The Times (paywall), Coronavirus contact tracers sharing patients’ data on WhatsApp and Facebook.
